Day 14: Photo Fridays, Gros Islet

Gros Iset (noun) of French origin. Pronunciation ( grows - elaay)

A small community in Northern St. Lucia where the streets are transformed each Friday night into……

Zouk, Calypso, Soca, Reggae, Country and Western, Swing, R&B, no partiality in the selection. The old, the young, the black, the white and the utterly confused. Rum, beer, weed, sex, food peddlers and pushers. Like a street dance in Jamaica, but unlike a Jamaican street dance. Conch, chicken kidneys and other offals, grilled, fried and sauced. French accents, English dialects, Lucian context. Boys in puberty, white women on ecstasy. Organized chaos and coordinated heat.
